This Garden Starter Pack includes 18 plants, a garden design, and instructions for planting and maintenance. The design and instructions are available here.
The Pollinator Starter Pack includes a selection of sun-loving plants that attract bees and butterflies and provide food for pollinator larvae and caterpillars. The plants can be used to create a small pollinator garden or added into existing landscaping. Most of the species form tidy clumps, similar to the perennials commonly used in traditional garden beds.
This collection includes both nectar plants for adult pollinators and host plants for caterpillars. Pussytoes support Painted Lady butterfly caterpillars, Milkweed supports Monarch caterpillars, and the grasses and sedges provide food for skipper butterfly larvae. In late summer, Meadow Blazing Star blooms and attracts monarchs feeding on nectar—often drawing many butterflies at once!
One Starter Pack will fill an area of about 6 × 6 feet. For a larger garden with more blooms throughout the season, you can combine two or three Starter Packs to create a bigger planting.
Great native garden choice for the Minnesota Lawns to Legumes grant program!
