FAQs
Where are you located?
We have a native plant greenhouse in Albert Lea, Minnesota, near our family farm and seed production plots. We do not have retail hours—if you want to buy our plants, you can pre-order online or buy them at one of our Twin Cities or southern MN plant sales.
How much does shipping cost?
Local pickup is free. Shipping costs about approximately 10 - 17% of plant costs, or $20 - $25 for up to six 12-packs (72 plants), then $26 - $38 for up to twelve 12-packs (144 plants), then $46 - $63 for up to eighteen 12-packs (216 plants), then $52 - $76 for up to twenty-four 12-packs, and so on (calculated at checkout).
Can you ship earlier than your available shipping dates?
No. We follow an organized shipping schedule based on the date that customers choose during checkout. Many of our customers plan the date their plants are arriving so that they are home to plant them.
Being in cold Minnesota, our plants usually aren’t ready until early May. Waiting until mid-May also ensures that temperatures are above freezing before shipping or selling plants.
Why do you have a minimum order amount?
We have a minimum order amount equal to one tray of plants. Having a minimum pre-order amount allows us to offer lower plant prices.
Can I pickup my pre-order on a different day or in a different location?
If you want to change your pickup location to one of our other pickup locations, you can email us. However, we do not do pickups outside of our pre-planned pickup locations and dates.
Why don’t you ship 3” pots?
3” pots are shipped very differently than 12-packs of plugs. By only shipping plugs, we are able to keep all of our prices lower.
Why can’t you ship to certain states?
Every state has different regulations to slow the spread of invasive species. Some states have invasive pests that other states currently do not, and therefore do not allow plants, soil, or wood that might harbor those pests to be shipped from certain states into their own state. We follow other states regulations.
Do you use neonicotinoids?
No, we do not use neonicotinoids. Instead, we use predatory insects that eat the pest insects! Tiny parasitic wasps (harmless to humans) hunt aphids, and mites (not the bad plant mites!) eat the larvae of fungus gnats.
What is your refund policy?
If you are unhappy with the quality of your plants, or if you believe they were harmed during shipping, please email us within 60 days of receiving them for a refund or store credit. We do not ship replacement plants.
Why are some plants sold out already?
Since we accept pre-orders starting January 1st, many plants get sold out by May. Some plants we only grow a small amount because of limited seed or difficult germination (like Hoary Puccoon and Wood Betony). Some species we grow only in spring or only in fall. Sign up for wait lists on plant pages or our newsletter to be notified when plants become available.
When are your plants available?
When do accept pre-orders?
Spring: We ship plants and have local pickups during May and June, and accept those pre-orders on our website from Jan. 1 until May.
Fall: We ship plants and have local pickups in September, and accept those pre-orders on our website from July until September.
I’m receiving an error message that you can’t ship to my region, even though I don’t live in a restricted state.
Sometimes, when an address is selected from the drop-down menu, it doesn't register correctly.
Try this: back out of the checkout process, and then checkout again. This time, enter your address from the bottom up: First type your zip code, then State, then City, then Street Address. DO NOT select an address from the drop-down list. If that doesn’t work, contact us.
