Pearly Everlasting produces clusters of small white flowers above narrow, silky foliage. The bright blooms stand out in sunny prairie gardens and continue to look good as they dry on the plant, which gives it the “Everlasting” name.

This species spreads by underground stems and forms colonies over time. It works well in naturalistic plantings, open prairie gardens, and dry areas where plants are allowed to fill in and mingle.

Pearly Everlasting is also an important host plant for the caterpillars of Painted Lady butterflies. In gardens it grows well with other dry prairie species such as Butterfly Milkweed, Prairie Coreopsis, and Little Bluestem.
